It’s been a few months since I’ve had an all-consuming reading experience, but Chanel Cleeton’s Into the Blue has ended my fangirling dry spell. If you’re a fan of contemporary second chance romances, you will want to move this book to the top of your TBR! The second novel in the Wild Aces series, it can be read as a standalone; but I would recommend reading the first installment, Fly with Me, before diving into this one as you’ll have a deeper understanding of Eric’s backstory.
Into the Blue is made up of everything that I love in second chance romances. Becca and Eric are such relatable characters that I became almost immediately invested in their pursuit of a happily ever after. They carry the weight of ten years of unresolved emotional baggage and Cleeton did a skillful job of infusing their reunion with heartfelt angst. Each feeling exchanged between this couple was palpable and I FELT every single one. For as much as this was a second chance romance, it was also a second chance at self-discovery for Becca and Eric. This exploration of what it means to want something when in your early twenties and then having to reconcile that continued want after ten years of growth brought added layers of depth to an already strong story.
Simply put, I fell in love with Into the Blue – the characters, the writing, the fact that the hero fought, truly, honestly, and steadfastly fought, to win back the love of his life. There are very few books where I highlight entire chapters, but the book’s climax was so emotionally impactful that I will without a doubt be going back for re-reads of this chapter again in the future. Cleeton has deservedly earned a spot on my automatic one-click author list and I can’t wait for the next book in this series because it’s shaping up to be one hell of a hard-won HEA!
