The Avery Shaw Experiment by Kelly Oram

For awhile I’ve been hearing that I need to read a book by Kelly Oram. I was listening, but as a blogger my TBR sometimes becomes unmanageable and the ability to read what I want to read becomes a little lost in the shuffle of ARCs. I saw a post about this particular book dropping to 99cents so I snatched it up quick like to make sure when I had a moment, I could read it. In between 2 ARCs, I needed a little bit of a break so I broke this book out just to see if it was really everything everyone had said it would be and I ended up not even putting it down. The absolute epitome of a literary binge that I enjoyed every page of.

This isn’t a typical story. That was my favorite part of the whole thing, it not just your run of the mill romance, it was an adventure. I loved the reality Oram is explaining; that love doesn’t always turn out exactly the way you expect and who you think is best for you, doesn’t always turn out to be the best. A real war between head and heart can teach us that what we want sometimes isn’t what we need. In my opinion, there’s nothing better in a reader’s experience than when a book makes you all tingly. The Avery Shaw Experiment did just that. So much so, I read it within a 24 hour period and couldn’t get enough. There was just enough romance mixed in with geeky realistic life to make this book a blast to read.

A recommended publication that makes me excited to pick up another Kelly Oram book in the future. She encompasses everything I love about Young Adult literature with this story. She wrote exactly what I needed to read and I love when that comes together in word form, flawlessly.

“Somewhere between the shower and the Red Bull I fell in love with you, Aves. I’m talking epically. There is no coming back from a fall like mine.”
